Indonesia must reconsider its participation in the Gaza peace plan presented by U.S. President Donald Trump. This request has been made by the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the occupied Palestinian territories and has raised concerns due to the absence of a representative from the Palestinians in this plan.
Peace Plan and Indonesia's Role
The "Peace Committee" plan, of which Indonesia is a key member, was introduced by Trump in January of this year. This committee has been established to address global conflicts typically managed by the United Nations. Indonesia, as the world's largest Muslim-majority country, has announced that it will send forces to assist in establishing stability in Gaza as part of an international stabilizing force.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that discussions regarding the Peace Committee remain stalled and that the country has reiterated its previous position. Meanwhile, the UN expert, Albania, has stated that he understands Indonesia's good intentions but has described the action as dangerous, warning that it may lead to the normalization of an abnormal mechanism.
Criticism of the Peace Committee
Albania also emphasized that legally, Israel cannot play a role in determining the future of the Palestinians. Legal experts have pointed out criticisms of the Peace Committee regarding why there is no representative from the Palestinians present, while this committee is supposed to oversee temporary governance in the Palestinian territories.
Albania expressed concern about the dangers that Indonesia may pose to its close relations with the Palestinians, stating: "It is very dangerous to act in circumstances where laws are determined by Israel." Trump's peace plan has so far faced failure, and efforts to disarm Hamas and ensure Israel's withdrawal from Gaza have also encountered serious obstacles.
The Israeli government has denied the allegations of committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza, which have been raised by UN commissions and international and Israeli human rights groups.
