Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, our Foreign Minister, explained Iran's positions regarding negotiations with the United States in an interview with a news network. He emphasized that Iran sees no necessity for a meeting with American officials at this time and there are no plans for such a meeting.
Iran's Conditions for Any Negotiation
Araghchi further referred to reports regarding the possibility of direct negotiations between Iran and the United States, stating: "These reports are merely media speculation. Iran's conditions for any agreement or negotiation are completely clear." He also announced that consultations among mediators regarding these conditions are ongoing.
He clarified that Qatari and Pakistani mediators continue their efforts, and the message from J.D. Vance has been carefully reviewed and discussed in high-level meetings. Araghchi added: "After Washington agrees to Iran's conditions, a decision will be made on how to conduct negotiations, whether direct or indirect."
Status of Cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency
Araghchi also discussed cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, stating: "There is still a long way to go for this cooperation to return to normal status." He emphasized that Iran, as a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), is committed to its obligations under this treaty.
Subsequently, our Foreign Minister referred to Iran's defense capabilities, stating: "Iran has updated its military capabilities and addressed its weaknesses." He also emphasized the readiness of Iran's armed forces and noted that the possibility of war cannot be ruled out, and the country is prepared to face all scenarios.
Iran's Demands Regarding Oil and the Strait of Hormuz
Araghchi pointed to the necessity of stopping the war and called for an end to conflicts on all fronts, including Lebanon. He also discussed the status of the Strait of Hormuz, stating: "The reopening of this strategic passage is conditional on the acceptance of a new shipping route defined by Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, based on which other routes will be closed."
The Iranian Foreign Minister concluded by referring to the restoration of oil exemptions and the release of all frozen Iranian assets, including those of our country in Qatar, stating these as other demands of Iran. He also mentioned proposals regarding the duration of Iran's proposal, stating: "The Qatari side has suggested that this duration be reduced to five days; however, at the current stage, a proposal has been received that reduces the execution period to two days."
